ELIZABETH MARIE CROWELL
born December 26, 1936 - died March 4, 1937, age 2 months.

Father: Richard Crowell
Mother: Marie Nowasky (1904-1985)

Cause of death: Bronchopneumonia
Secondary cause: Marasmus

Bronchopneumonia (Bronchial Pneumonia) is caused by bacteria invading the lungs, leading to inflammation of the bronchial tubes causing fluid to build up, thus reducing the amount of air that can be maintained in the lungs. The patient suffers from severe coughing and difficulty breathing. Other symptoms include chest pain, rapid breathing, and shortness of breath. Fever, sweats, a headache, and weakness are also usually present.

Maramus is severe malnutrition caused by a severe deficiency of nearly all nutrients, especially protein and calories.

Given the symptoms listed above for bronchpneumonia, poor little Elizabeth, the "Christmas Baby", was unable to take in sufficient nourishment. She became more and more emaciated during her short life and eventually died.
