CAUSES OF DEATH

Line

BERTHA NOWASKY KUNTZE
born around 1867 in Ceckin, Germany - died January 22, 1923, age 55 years.

Father: Charles Nowasky (1831-1904)
Mother: Louise Krzigan (1836-1903)
Spouse: Albert Kuntze (1861-1897)

Cause of death: Chronic Interstitial Nephritis

Chronic Interstitial Nephritis is a persistent inflammation of the spaces between kidney tubes, eventually leading to kidney failure. Although the disease can be caused by a bacterial infection in the kidneys, the more likely cause is by an allergic reaction to a drug.

At times there are no symptoms of this disease, but when they do occur they are widely varied and can occur rapidly or gradually. When caused by an allergic reaction, the symptoms of acute tubulointerstitial nephritis are fever, rash, and enlarged kidneys. Some people experience dysuria (painful urination), and lower back pain. In chronic tubulointerstitial nephritis the patient can experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and weight loss.

Bertha was being treated for this condition when her kidneys failed and she died on January 22, 1923, exactly 26 years to the day after the death of her husband Albert. She was buried at Evergreens Cemetery in the same unmarked plot as her mother Louise and daughter Ada.
