By 1935, William and his second wife Lillie were renting an apartment here at 634 Franklin Avenue in Brooklyn. Living with them was Lillie's spinster sister Julia Foell.
The year before, on May 5, 1934, Lillie gave birth to their only child, Robert W. Leier. William struggled to care for his new family, often unemployed during the Great Depression.
In 1942, his son Bill was back living here with them.
Between 1939 and 1941, New York City photographed every building in the five boroughs for tax purposes.
